Policy Basics
Policy Term 12 months
Effective Date The Effective Date will be listed on the Declarations Page of your policy after you apply and are accepted.
Enrollment Age Pet must be at least 8 weeks old.

All policies include accident and illness coverage, however, if your pet does not fall within the following upper age limits they will not be eligible for illness coverage on new policies:
  • Mixed Breed Dogs -Upper age limit up to and including 8 years.
  • Purebreed Dogs - Upper age limit up to and including 6 years.
  • Mixed Breed Cats - Upper age limit up to and including 10 years.
  • Purebreed Cats - Upper age limit up to and including 8 years.
Cancellation Policy Ask for a current copy of their insurance policy so that you may review their cancellation policy
Waiting Period 14 days after the policy effective date for accidents and illness

6 months after the policy effective date for orthopedic conditions. The waiting period for orthopedic conditions will reduced to 14 days if you have your veterinarian certify, at your expense, that your pet has no orthopedic problems.
Waiting Period for Cruciate Injury 6 months after the policy effective date. The waiting period for orthopedic conditions will reduced to 14 days if you have your veterinarian certify, at your expense, that your pet has no orthopedic problems.
Coverage When Travel Out of State or Country? Out of State Coverage - You WILL be covered while traveling to other states with your pet.

Can the Price of the Policy Increase as my Pet Ages? Yes, the policy premium can increase as your pet ages.

Pre-existing Conditions Policy Pre-existing conditions are not covered.

Pre-existing conditions include the following:
  1. If your pet had symptoms or was diagnosed with an illness or injury before your policy effective date or during the waiting period, this will be considered pre-existing. These conditions may be covered in the future if cured, however, this is at the discretion of Embrace.
  2. Bilateral Conditions - If your pet develops a Bilateral Condition before your policy effective date or during the waiting period, it will not be covered and if your pet develops the same condition on the opposite side after the waiting period it will not be covered. For example if a dog has been diagnosed with a cruciate tear in this left knee before the effective date or during the waiting period, a cruciate tear in the right leg will not be covered. Even if it happens after the waiting period.

    Examples of Bilateral Conditions include but not limited to: cruciate tears or strains, hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, and elbow dysplasia.
  3. If your pet develops a Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD) before your policy effective date or during the wafting period, your pet will not be covered for any future incidences of IVDD, even if it is a different vertebrae that is injured.
  4. If your pet has been diagnosed or treated for cancer before your policy effective date or during the waiting period, your pet will not be covered for any further incidences of any type of cancer in any location in the body. This exclusion includes any conditions that are a direct result of the cancer.
  5. If your pet has been diagnosed or treated for hyperthyroidism before your policy effective date or during the waiting period, hyperthyroidism treatments and medication are not covered, as well as any secondary conditions that may develop including kidney, heart, and high blood pressure conditions.

Hereditary & Congenital Conditions Coverage [INCLUDED] This is included at no additional cost with every Embrace pet insurance plan except their Accident Only plan.

Hereditary and congenital conditions are covered as long as your pet is not showing signs and the disease has not been diagnosed or suspected prior to enrollment or during the waiting period.

Continual Coverage for Chronic Conditions [INCLUDED] Continual coverage for chronic conditions is included with the policy.

Chronic conditions will continue to be covered each year. The maximum reimbursement you can receive in any given year for continual care of chronic conditions is 25% of your policy annual maximum.

Chronic Conditions Policy The maximum amount you can receive each year for continual care of chronic conditions is 25% of your policy's annual maximum payout.
  • If your annual maximum is $2000 then your chronic conditions coverage for the year will be (0.25 x $2000) or $500
  • If your annual maximum is $5000 then your chronic conditions coverage for the year will be (0.25 x $5000) or $1,250
  • If your annual maximum is $10,000 then your chronic conditions coverage for the year will be (0.25 x $10,000) or $2,500
If your pet has more than one chronic condition the max payout is still 25% of your policy's annual maximum. It is not 25% per chronic condition.

Bilateral conditions are considered chronic conditions if it happens on the opposite side after the initial claim. For example: Let's say your dog gets a cruciate injury on left leg after enrolled and after waiting period. If your dog gets a cruciate injury on the right leg in the future, treatment for the right leg will only be covered up to 25% of your policy's annual maximum. Bilateral conditions include but are not limited to cruciate tears or strains, hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, and elbow dysplasia.

They will not cover chronic conditions that are pre-existing or occurred during the waiting period as these are considered pre-existing conditions.

Cancer Coverage Limits The initial claim will be covered up to the annual maximum you select. Continual coverage for a cancer condition will be limited to 25% of your annual maximum each year.

Dental accident and illness coverage does not cover orthodontic or endodontic procedures such as root canals or crowns, fluoride treatment, teeth cleanings not associated with illness.

How is Reimbursement Determined CUSTOMER REP: If they feel the fees are high compared to what is being charged in your area, they will use UCR. Otherwise reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.
